Japanese Taiko Drums
Taiko drums have been associated with both the Shinto and Buddhist traditions in Japan. The large barrel drum taikos have nailed heads and range in size from two feet across to several meters across. This hiradaiko, hira meaning flat, was made by Rolling Thunder. The shimedaiko, shime meaning "bound," was made by Kawada Taiko Factory. The uchiwadaiko, uchiwa meaning "fan," were made by Miyamoto Taiko. Rolling Thunder provides information on ways of purchasing taiko drums in the US and abroad at www.taiko.com.
