Senegalese Sabar
The Sabar is unique to the drumming tradition of Senegal. Many of the rhythms for Sabar came from spoken language as the Sabar was used to transmit messages over great distances in the past. The Sabar is played with a light stick in the right hand that alternates strikes with the fingers and palm of the left hand. The pace of Sabar music is intense and frenetic, often orchestrated by a single lead drummer. See section on Wagane N'diaye Rose
