|Morocco has an abundant array of hand percussion. The large cactus drum below stands 4 feet tall and was made from the roots of a large cactus. The base of the cactus root is cut off and covered with a goat-skin head. This example was imported from Essouira, Morocco. The Moroccan bongos are intricately laced with strips of hide. They were made in Fes, the town famous for leatherworks. Moroccan bongos are sometimes decorated with blue, white and orange glazing.
