Indonesian Drums
The kendang is a drum used to lead gamelan orchestras. Java, Bali and Lombok each have developed different styles of kendang as their traditions evolved separately. The kendang have a male and female counterpart. The female being smaller and higher in pitch. The kendang from Java is bulbous in shape. When performed with Gamelan orchestras, it is usually held by a wooden stand.
